Strider Bikes

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

When I was teaching my younger daughter to ride a bike, she was terrified that she would fall. She desperately wanted to keep up with her older sister, but having to pedal and learn how to balance at the same time was just too much for her. I was surprised because she had done so well with her tricycle and even with training wheels. It was very difficult for her to start and stop and she was convinced that she wouldn’t be able to do it. If only I had known about strider bikes when she was little. I know she would have felt so much more in control. She would have been able to experiment with what she was comfortable with, while knowing that the ability to stop was within her immediate reach. If she had learned on these, I am confident that she would have learned to balance at a much younger age and that the transition to a larger pedal bike would have been seamless.  These things are amazing. Really, how can you argue with 2 and 3 year olds riding bikes? Check out the videos. Amazing.
