This week we continue our discussion about things to consider when you are expecting. Two important considerations are about getting out and about with your new arrival!
*Strolling. What kind of stroller do you think will be the most functional for you and your family? Do you spend a great deal of time outside – walking in the park or trails? Or are you more likely to be using it in the mall? Will you be jogging with your baby? Do you need a stroller that can fold compactly to fit into a small car? Is it important for an infant car seat to fit into the stroller so that you can move a sleeping baby easily between stroller and car?
*Driving. What kind of car seat best fits your lifestyle? Do you want to start with a convertible car seat that will take your baby from infant to toddler? Many people prefer an infant car seat that can be easily removed from the car and carried around or attached to a stroller. Is this something that you would prefer as well? How important is the size of the car seat? Do you have other car seats or passengers who also need to fit in the back seat?

So you just found out you’re expecting! This exciting time can also be very overwhelming. There are so many considerations and decisions that need to be made before your new family member makes an appearance. It’s hard to know what questions to ask – much less know what the answers are! We thought we would take some time to mention a few things that every new parent needs to think about. This week we’ll discuss Diapering, Sleeping and Carrying!
*Diapering. What kind of diapers do you feel will best meet your needs and the needs of your family? How often are you able to do laundry? How important is sustainability in your decision? Do you have a history of allergies or skin sensitivities in your family that you think may be passed on to your baby?
*green tip* Claudia’s Choices and other phosphate-free hypoallergenic detergents are not only for cloth diapers. In fact, many of our customers say that their whites have neverbeen brighter when using these detergents on their everyday laundry!
*Sleeping. What kind of sleeping option would you like to choose? Do you feel more comfortable co-sleeping? Or do you feel that a crib would be more beneficial for you and your baby? Another option that an increasing number of parents are choosing is a baby hammock which allows the baby to sleep alone, but conforms to their small shape and can be easily rocked or swayed to sooth the baby. Is this something that you might consider?
*Carrying. How would you prefer to carry your baby? Some people prefer a more structured carrier while others like the closeness that a wrap or sling provides. Another consideration is who is likely to be using the carrier – some come in sizes which may not fit all of the caretakers in a baby’s life. Is this something that may be an issue for you?

If you happen to walk by our Fredericton store this week, you might think it was summer (and boy do we wish it was!!). Our front window and store are filled with wonderful products – many of them new, made for much warmer weather. Why? Because March Break is less than a month away and we are hoping you have an amazing warm weather holiday planned for you and your family.
We have super cute sun hats with big wide brims, Banz swimsuits (on sale!), life jackets, summer clothes, sandals, and hooded beach towels! I should probably mention the HUGE Melissa & Doug order that just arrived filled with the best and cutest summer toys we’ve seen! We have toys for digging, toys for building, toys for watering and toys for planting (we even have toys for cleaning up!).
If you are expecting slightly wetter weather for your March holidays or just preparing for a (hopefully!) early spring, we also now have our new Western Chief raingear in…. we have so much new stuff in our store you might not even recognize it!
Of course our Saint John location also has a full stock of all these products and is ready and waiting to help you despite their recent water damage from a mall flood. Excuse our mess while we make repairs, but as always, we are happy to help!
**This week’s Green Idea: Have you considered bamboo? Bamboo is a very sustainable resource; being earth’s fastest growing plant, it can grow up to 48 inches in a day! Bamboo is harvested and turned into one of our softest fabrics. It is lightweight, strong and wicks moisture away from the body (making it the perfect material for cloth diapers!). It even has antibacterial properties!

We are happy to announce that our Fredericton store has recently joined Fredericton’s “Green Shops” campaign! Participating businesses implement actions to help reduce their environmental impact. For example our Fredericton location is recycling used paper, eliminating the use of plastic bags, and launching a campaign to encourage employees to use “greener” modes of travel to and from work, such as biking, walking or using public transportation. And that’s to name just a few!
To celebrate this green movement and because we want to do everything we can to help preserve the earth for our children, we thought we would include a green idea or product in every blog entry from now on!
Our green product of the week this week is Lunchbots! We just started carrying these awesome stainless steel lunch containers. They are eco-friendly, reusable and eliminate the need for plastic baggies and containers. And unlike plastic containers, you can rest assured that they do not leach harmful chemicals into your child’s food. As we near the end of November, it becomes increasingly apparent that the holiday season is rapidly approaching! The holidays can be a time of joy and happiness; decorating and hanging lights, finding that special present for a loved one, and getting together with friends and family. We at Stylin’ Mama, Baby & Tot hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday season.
